BBH and G4C cooperate in the fight against cybercrime

The law firm Becker Büttner Held (BBH) and the German Competence Centre against Cyber Crime e.V. (G4C) establish a cooperation with the aim of pooling their expertise and networks in regard to critical infrastructures that are particularly exposed to the risk of cybercrime.

With the increasing digitalisation of the economy, the latter also becomes more vulnerable to cyber attacks and other forms of cybercrime. Therefore, the requirements for IT security in companies, especially those regarded to constitute critical infrastructures within the meaning of the Ordinance on the Identification of Critical Infrastructures (BSI-Kritisverordnung), are equally stringent.

Critical infrastructures include companies providing services of public interest, as well as banks, hospitals and the food trade. This wide range explains the special importance of the cooperation that has now been agreed. BBH has, for many years, been advising companies of the infrastructure and the manufacturing industry on the proper implementation of the statutory requirements applicable to them, also concerning cybersecurity. The competence centre G4C is an association bringing together mainly companies from the financial and IT sector with the objective of combating cybercrime and developing preventive measures against cyber attacks. “Our clients from the energy, transport and health sector are among the critical infrastructures that have to deal with the issue of cybercrime. With G4C, we gain a partner which complements us very well in terms of experience and contacts,” says lawyer and BBH partner Prof. Dr. Ines Zenke.

Besides BBH, G4C’s partners include the Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt – BKA) and the Federal Office for Information Security (Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik – BSI).

Becker Büttner Held is a leading provider of advisory services for energy and infrastructure companies and their customers.
